BtoBet processes trillions of betting requests, boosts customer loyalty using AWS

By incorporating Amazon Web Services (AWS), BtoBet can now automatically scale compute resources to deal with spikes in demand for betting data and deliver an even greater player experience. Company’s Chief Technology Officer, Guy Gani, in a case study by AWS talks about the benefits of reinforcing the IT on-premises infrastructure with AWS cloud.

Betting on sporting events from the Olympics to Premier League soccer matches is a billion-dollar market characterized by surges in customer demand around live events. BtoBet provides betting and gambling businesses with its sportsbook solution, allowing individuals to place bets on sporting events.

Since migrating to Amazon Web Services, BtoBet can scale compute resources to handle spikes in demand and deliver a responsive experience for its partners and their players. It has also launched in new global markets and has the resources to support triple-digit customer growth. Using AWS, the company can manage double the volume of betting transactions without expanding its IT team.

To deliver a responsive experience for players and maintain customer loyalty, betting operators need stable, scalable systems that can process millions of transactions simultaneously and instantaneously.

When BtoBet found that its on-premises infrastructure couldn’t handle the company’s rapid growth, it turned to AWS. The business can now automatically scale compute resources to deal with spikes in demand for betting data and deliver a great player experience.

And, since migrating to AWS, BtoBet can easily manage double the volume of betting transactions while keeping the same headcount for its IT team. This helps it accelerate its growth into new global markets.

We know we can count on AWS. We always have the support and advice we need for any challenges or issues,” says Guy Gani, Chief Technology Officer at BtoBet.

Migrating to AWS to Boost Customer Loyalty

BtoBet’s sportsbook solution serves gambling businesses, processing bets for over 60,000 unique sporting events each month. Speed of service is a competitive differentiator for its customers. If transactions are slow or players experience outages, their bets won’t be placed, or the odds will change by the time the transaction goes through. This can lead to dissatisfied customers who are then more likely to choose another provider the next time they want to bet on an event.

With BtoBet’s on-premises infrastructure, it could take the IT team months to purchase and set up servers to provide the resources needed to handle variable demand. The company knew it had to scale faster to maintain performance and customer loyalty. So it migrated the sportsbook platform, as well as all customer data, to AWS. BtoBet did this using the AWS Migration Acceleration Program, which helps to reduce costs, provides expertise, and speeds the migration process.

BtoBet benefited from AWS support throughout the migration. “Our AWS team helped us to identify the right infrastructure in moving from on premises to the cloud—and then provided engineering support for the entire process,” says Guy Gani, chief technology officer (CTO) at BtoBet. “We’ve received assistance in resolving any issues and AWS helped us to feel confident that we could have a successful migration.

Processing 9 trillion requests a month

BtoBet can now ramp up its cloud resources within minutes, so its partners can always provide a responsive experience for their players. “Using AWS, we can quickly and cost-effectively scale compute resources to meet spikes in demand,” says Gani. “Provisioning new instances when we need them is as simple as clicking a button.”

The company processes double the volume of betting transactions compared to 8 months ago, totaling around 9 trillion requests a month. It has supported this growth using Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), which provides secure and resizable compute capacity for virtually any workload. This means that BtoBet can automatically spin up hundreds of server instances to process customer event data and deliver fast betting transactions for customers’ communities of fans.

The company now serves players around the globe, operating in four continents. Since migrating to AWS, it has launched into new markets in Africa, Europe, and Latin America. The company reports 42 percent growth in its request processing, with the number of tickets settled also increasing by 33 percent. To support seamless transactions from anywhere, BtoBet uses Amazon ElastiCache, which reduces latency to microseconds, and Amazon CloudFront, a content delivery network service built for high performance, security, and developer convenience.

Easier Recruitment and Support for Future Growth

Since the migration, BtoBet has experienced triple-digit growth in customer numbers and bets placed. Using AWS Managed Services, it can handle this without expanding its IT team. A dedicated AWS account manager, technical solution architect, and support team help to keep the company’s technology running smoothly with minimum downtime. “We know we can count on AWS,” says Gani. “We always have the support and advice we need for any challenges or issues.”

BtoBet now also finds it easier than before to hire talent. “It’s simple to find candidates with AWS skills who can come onboard and start making a difference right away,” says Gani. “This makes us confident that we’re well equipped to deal with future growth.”
