In the capital of Paraná state, doing that small feat, in the lottery houses, can give another option. With the justification of helping the cost of public transport, a suggestion to the Executive Power, approved by the City Council of Curitiba (CMC), in this Wednesday's session (3), proposes the creation of a municipal lottery (205.00229.2022).
The proposal says that the service could be implemented by the Municipal Department of Planning, Finance and Budget or, still, under the condition of concession, permission or an accredited organization.
The idea is that the revenue from the bets, discounting the prizes and the lottery management, will be used to subsidize public transport in Curitiba.
For the author of the nomination, Professor Euler (MDB), the measure could help reduce the cost of the ticket – today, the amount paid by the user is R$ 5.50 (US$ 1.05).
At the end of the first semester, another suggestion from the CMC dealt with the regulation of the law that already authorizes the Municipality to explore advertising on buses.
"Ideas for us to minimize the deficit of the municipal public service are always welcome," commented Amália Tortato (Novo), author of the proposal accepted earlier.
In the text, the author cites the transfers made to companies throughout the pandemic:
“In the last two years, the Municipal Public Administration of Curitiba transferred millions of dollars to companies that operate the city's collective public transport. These transfers were authorized by a majority of the Legislative Power itself after the approval of the Emergency Regime for the Operation and Costing of Public Transport and a subsequent Bill. In order for Curitiba to be able to voluntarily raise funds for the cost of public transport, reducing or even eliminating the need to resort to public coffers, the creation of the public Lottery service in the Municipality of Curitiba is indicated.”
The suggestion now passes for analysis by the prefecture.
