The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, together with the municipal secretaries of Finance (Guilherme Bueno de Camargo), the Civil House (Fabrício Cobra), the chief of staff (Diogo Soares), the director of investments of SP Negócios (Michel Cerqueira) and the councillor Fabio Riva, received this Tuesday afternoon (27) the director of the Entain Group, Marcus Silva, accompanied by the firm's lawyers in Brazil, Luiz Felipe Maia and Fernanda Batistella.
At the meeting, Mayor Ricardo Nunes was very receptive to the company and to the possibility of São Paulo opening the city's doors to the installation of sports betting companies interested in the Brazilian market.
In order to attract companies such as Entain and others in the sports betting sector, which is already legalized and close to being regulated, there is a possibility that the city of São Paulo could seek a way to approve a ISS reduction to 2%, a topic that would have been dealt with during the meeting.
The Mayor himself posted the meeting on his social networks, showing a lot of transparency in relation to the event. When introducing the Group, he said that Entain is one of the largest companies in the world in its sector. Owner of global betting and gaming brands such as Ladbrokes, Sportingbet, partypoker, BetMGM and bwin, among others, Ricardo Nunes stated that “Entain wants to establish itself in Brazil, and we hope it will be here in São Paulo.”
“The conversations have progressed and I am almost certain that everything will work out,” said Ricardo Nunes, who highlighted the fact that Entain is one of the 100 largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Marcus Silva completed the Mayor's presentation saying that being part of the FTSE-100 puts the Group in a prominent position. “We are highly audited, with very high internal governance, as well as social responsibility in all jurisdictions where we operate.”
GMB asked the company's lawyer, Luiz Felipe Maia about the meeting. Out of respect for his client Entain, Maia said: "We cannot provide details of the meeting due to professional confidentiality reasons, but we are very optimistic about the way in which the municipality of São Paulo is analyzing the opportunity to attract companies in the gaming sector."
