The US$221 million distributed in 2022 is not only the largest, in absolute numbers, than the US$ 246,300,997.02 for 2021 and US$ 251,736,594.86 for 2019 in the historical series of Esports Earnings, which began in 1998. But in those two years, more tournaments have been held, which makes the averages per league of both years lower than that of 2022.
The games with the highest prizes in 2022 were DotA 2, which historically boasts the first position in the ranking, due to The International, the world championship of the sport, which pays millionaire prizes; the Arena of Valor (a western version of Honor of Kings, a very popular mobile game in China); and PUBG Mobile, another Asian-dominated game.
This is reflected in the most awarded organizations. The 2022 ranking is led by Tundra Esports, which had The International's champion team receiving US$8,518,822 at the DotA 2 world championship.
In second place is China's eStar Gaming, whose team won the Honor of Kings International Championship 2022 and took US$3.5 million. Team Liquid, present in several modalities and which had the 3rd place team of The International, appears in 3rd place.
The best-placed Brazilian club in the ranking is FURIA, which is in 18th place, with US$ 1,722,913.73 obtained in prizes in the championships it played in 2022. LOUD, which had the world champion team of Valorant last year, appears in 61st position, with US$ 641,037.57.
The survey shows that Brazil was the fourth country that earned the most prizes in electronic sports in 2022. The country is only behind China, the United States and South Korea.
Esports Earning revealed that Brazil managed to make US$ 9.9 million last year with prizes in electronic sports. Leader of the list, China earned US$44 million in 2022.
Free Fire, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League and VALORANT are among the modalities that helped Brazil to appear in fourth position among the highest grossed. Players from these four games appear in the top 15 positions on the list, excluding counter-strike: Global Offensive athletes.
FURIA, with the Rocket League, earned about US$ 788,000 in the sport because of the title in Gamers8 in Saudi Arabia, and for reaching the semifinals of the RLCS World Championship, the sport's world championship.
Gabriel "Caard" Cardoso, Caio "CaioTG1" Vinicius and Yan "yanxnz" Nolasco earned US$262,000.
In addition, the Panthers' CS:GO team also appears on the list. Each of Valve's FPS players, semifinalists of iEM Rio Major 2022, earned US$64,000 last season.
At Rainbow Six, the Team Liquid cast each earned US$96,000. The Vivo Keyd Stars Free Fire squad earned US$95,000 each throughout the year. The cast of LOUD, champion of VALORANT Champions Istanbul, earned US$ 94,000 each thanks to the results at the World Championships in Turkey, the Masters Reykjavík and Copenhagen, in addition to the two stages of VCT Challengers Brazil.
