Valter Delfraro Jr., Government Relations and Business Development Executive, Brazil

“GLI achieved the proposed goals in 2022, will work to strengthen the industry in 2023”

GLI, one of the gaming industry's most prestigious labs with a presence in over 480 regulated jurisdictions, spoke with GMB about 2022 results and this year's outlook. Valter Delfraro Jr., government relations and business development executive, points out that the company achieved all its objectives and wants to reinforce its global presence to strengthen the industry.

GMB - What is your evaluation of your company's performance and growth in 2022? Was it as expected, or did it exceed expectations?
Valter Delfraro Jr. - We can safely say that it went beyond our expectations, and we were able to help regulator, suppliers, and operators navigate new areas of gaming and made exciting advances. From the GLI side we were excited that our division for LATAM & Caribbean is now also responsible for the Spanish markets, giving our clients a valuable bridge between the continents to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. Here in our region, we have acquired new clients in addition to guaranteeing the fidelity of those who have always worked with us. We are following the emergent jurisdictions in our region that always rely on the contribution of our knowledge. Therefore, we can say that our goals were achieved, and this strengthens us to start 2023 with even more desire to always collaborate and contribute knowledge to this industry!

How did you see the evolution of your company in Brazil?
In Brazil, GLI further strengthened its name, both with regulatory entities and with operators and gaming suppliers. We were part of the discussion processes for new lotteries, accompanying state lotteries, and the local and international industry. We also contributed to other regulatory entities whenever necessary. Together with operators and gaming suppliers, we can already say that many of them now look to us. We have already begun to see proactive action on the part of operators and gaming providers seeking certification both for platforms and games as well as for their Responsible Gaming programs.

We seek to be proactive, participating in events and webinars to bring everyone the knowledge and experience we have acquired through our constant active participation in more than 480 jurisdictions. We believe that sharing information and experience is essential at this stage in which Brazil finds itself, where benefiting from the successes and learnings of other jurisdictions is crucial for decision-making in the development of new markets.

And in Latin America, how have you advanced?
This year was an important year for the industry in this region as it marked the recovery of the gaming industry after the pandemic. We also closely followed the progress in the region with online gaming and betting in all jurisdictions where these modalities have been developed. Regulation is still pending in Peru and Brazil. Through the various events that took place here in Latin America during 2022, we can see the interest that other companies from other continents have in our region.

What do you expect for 2023 in our region?
We will continue to support new and emerging jurisdictions so they can start with industry-driven best practices. We continue to support the existing jurisdictions developmentby offering our knowledge through consulting and training. For operators and gaming suppliers, offering our know-how and guidance is key, so they can be where they are ready to be, always looking for the fastest and safest way.  GLI continues to keep offering our partners our technical and regulatory compliance services, training, and consulting, whether in cybersecurity, the development of Responsible Gaming Programs, and of course, the certification of their products. As an independent laboratory, we are more than a service provider; we are a constant business partner for our customers.
