Public security in the Federal District was under the responsibility of Torres, appointed secretary on January 2nd. The day before the acts, however, he traveled to the United States.
The DF security forces were accused of leniency towards the vandals, and the area is now under federal intervention, ordered by Lula on the same Sunday.
Torres was chosen to a seat on the supervisory board in April 2022, as appointed by Caixa Econômica Federal, the betting company's controlling shareholder. He would have a mandate until 2024, with the possibility of two more consecutive reappointments.
His departure from the board, however, will only be made official after a shareholders' meeting is held to deliberate on the matter. Preparations for convening the meeting are already underway.
The information about the dismissal was confirmed to Folha by the Ministry of Finance. "The resignation of Anderson Torres as a government representative on Caixa Loterias' supervisory board was requested this week," he said in a note.
The fiscal council is made up of three effective members and their respective alternates. One of them is appointed by the Ministry of Finance, as a representative of the National Treasury, and must be a civil servant with a permanent link with the public administration.
The other two are appointed by Caixa — a public bank wholly controlled by the Union. They are elected by the general meeting of shareholders. In the first meeting after the election, the members of the fiscal council themselves choose their chairman.
According to the Ministry of Finance, there is still no replacement name for the post occupied by Anderson Torres on the collegiate.
Last Tuesday (10), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), ordered the arrest of Torres, in the wake of Sunday's (8) coup acts.
The former minister anticipated his return to the country in light of the arrest warrant. The Federal Police must comply with the warrant upon Torres' arrival in Brazil.
Last Thursday (12), the Federal Police (PF) found at the former minister's residence in Brasília a draft of a decree for then-president Jair Bolsonaro to establish a state of defense at the headquarters of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) with the aim of reversing the result of the election—such a measure would be unconstitutional.
After the revelation of the draft by Folha, Torres said in a social network that he respects Brazilian democracy and said that, in his house, there was a pile of documents to be discarded, where "probably" the material was found by the PF.
