The city of Maricá, a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, debuted the brand “Maricá, welcoming by nature” as an international identity at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), which took place between January 18th and 22nd in Madrid, Spain.
Quaquá recorded a video in front of the Embratur and MARAEY stand (Resort Project at Restinga de Maricá), saying: “I will even fight a lot there in Brasília so that we can even have a Casino in Maricá.”
“I defend the legalization of gambling and casinos as an element of financing culture, financing handicrafts, in short, job creation (…)”, commented Quaquá.
Since 1946 gambling has been prohibited in Brazil. In the year of prohibition, there were 71 casinos in the country, which generated around 60,000 direct and indirect jobs. This number today could be much higher, taking into account the growth in population and tourism itself.
It is not new that Quaquá defends the idea of a casino in Maricá in the case of the legalization of the activity in Brazil. In 2018 during his election campaign, Quaquá spoke during a rally that there was interest from a Las Vegas group in investing in a casino in the city.
