The Dutch Gaming Authority Kansspelautoriteit -or KSA- is asking online casinos and sports betting sites to lower their daily limits, according to local media reports. The decision came after Kassa, a Dutch consumer protection TV show, revealed that users could set their money limit to €100,000 per day and the game time limit to 24 hours a day.
"I would ask providers of online gambling and sports betting to look at this carefully. It may not be to the letter, but the spirit of the law is to limit the limits set," said KSA President Rene Jansen.
Jansen said operators need to include a "moral side" to their corporate social responsibility and predicted that if providers don't act on their own, the government could change the law to force them to do so. Current legislation requires players to set money and time limits before betting, but offers operators no guidance on maximum limits, which has been described as "a legal loophole".
Online gambling has been legal in the Netherlands since last year, when the market was launched on October 1st with 10 operators. Others have since joined, making up this list of Dutch betting sites. Together with the market, Kansspelautoriteit launched a central player exclusion register called CRUKS (Centraal Register Uitsluiting Kansspelen), in which players can be voluntarily or involuntarily included by third parties to deal with addiction.
All game operators must connect to CRUKS and verify there is a record there before a guest starts playing. In this case, access to the game must be denied to the player.
2023 promises to be a good year for the online casino and sports betting sector in the Netherlands, which has seen impressive growth in recent years, positioning itself as one of the main markets in Europe and becoming one of the countries with better regulations and safer for betting lovers.
