The changes in different positions of the Ministry of Finance and the secretaries that compose it are drawing the attention of the sports betting market since, ultimately, it is expected that the body will follow through with the regulation process of Law 13.756/2018, left aside by the former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro.
Now, with the appointment of Marcos Barbosa Pinto to the Department of Productivity and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Finance, it is expected that the process will start again. He will be responsible for carrying out this work, since the General Coordination of Betting will be under his supervision.
With the restructuring of the Ministry of Finance, the new position that Marcos Barbosa Pinto will occupy will be that of National Secretary for Economic Reforms, with the Undersecretary for Regulation and Competition, who will lead the betting area, under his umbrella.
The new secretary is very close to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, having worked directly with him in President Lula's first term, when Haddad held the position of Minister of Planning. Both were responsible for leading public-private partnership projects.
The master of law from Yale University, in the United States, and a doctor from USP, he was also chief of staff of the Presidency of BNDES. As secretary from now on, one of his missions will be to lead the economic reforms discussed during the transitional government.
It is to be expected that more data will begin to emerge on how it will manage the regulation of sports betting, since the appointment of the coordinator of the area will give the north of which will be the path to follow.
