It is in the hands of the Committee on Constitution, Justice and Writing of the City Council of Ribeirão Preto (SP), Bill 155/2022, which provides for the authorization for the City Hall to create a public municipal lottery service.
The proposal is based on federal law 13,756/2018, which establishes the allocation of resources from the exploitation of lotteries and with support from the STF decision to end the Union's monopoly in the operation of lottery modalities.
The proposal is from councilor Paulo Modas (União), who says that the initiative is intended to assist in the economic recovery of the city after the covid-19 pandemic.
In order to be voted on, the Bill needs a positive opinion from the Commission, which has not yet presented its report. Chaired by councilor Renato Zucoloto (PP), the CCJ has Maurício Vila Abranches (PSDB) as deputy and councilors Sérgio Zerbinato (PSB), André Trindade (União) and Brando Veiga (REP) as members.
The exploitation of the Ribeirão Preto municipal lottery would be the responsibility of the Executive Power, through the Treasury Department, which could launch a public notice to grant the operation to the private sector.
