"Brazil will generate development and employment if it has the capacity to promote. Mexico today invests US$ 240 million in promotion and has in tourism a very important source of the economy. Peru, with all the political crisis it is going through, invests US$50 million in promotion. And Brazil does not invest even US$ 15 million," Freixo said in a meeting this Monday (30) with the Tourism Council of the Commercial Association of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
Among the proposals to increase the budget is the regulation of the Tourism Lottery. The bill authorizing the executive branch to create the lottery was sanctioned in September last year.
"The new lottery is not regulated. I've already started talking about this new lottery with the economic team and the Civil House so that a part can go to Embratur. But it's not the only source of resources. We have a debate about a percentage with the S System, a partnership with Apex (Export and Investment Promotion Agency), Sebrae (Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises) and with the private sector," added Freixo.
The president highlighted the lack in the production of tourist data to guide the policy of promoting the country's image abroad.
"We have to have quality information. I'm picking up an Embratur that doesn't know how many tourists come from, where they come from, what they're looking for. We are putting together a technical team bringing a professor from USP specialized in big data, in the production of numbers, so that we can choose the information and, with that, bring more people to Brazil."
