"GLI is only waiting for the right moment to have a laboratory in Brazil"

In another notable appearance, GLI, one of the most prestigious international certification and service laboratories for the sector, was present at G2E in Las Vegas. Valter Delfraro Jr., Government Relations and Business Development Executive, expressed to GMB his commitment to Brazil: 'We await the opportune moment and, in response to emerging needs, we will have a laboratory in the country.'

GMB: Your participation in the Global Gaming Expo is becoming increasingly significant, isn't it? How has it been for GLI?
Valter Delfraro Jr.:
For us, it's very important to be at an event of this magnitude. GLI always makes it a point to attend these events because we value this face-to-face interaction with our clients. And, of course, we find new opportunities here, as well as reinforcing everything we work on for the industry.

More than ever, this time you are at home, aren't you?
Yes, because we have a laboratory here in Las Vegas. This is actually something we aim to do for our clients who come to the fairs, who come to Las Vegas. We always take them to visit the laboratory because we believe that it's very important: not only to know the fair but also our laboratory. We definitely feel at home.

Have the contacts here been good, especially with operators and regulatory entities from Latin America and, of course, Brazil?
Yes, of course. From Brazil, no regulators are here this year, but there are operators. And we've been in contact with other regulators from Latin America and the Caribbean as well. Now, Karen [Sierra-Hughes] is responsible not only for Latin America but also for the entire Caribbean and Spain. So, it's certainly an opportunity to meet with all these people.

Seeing all the grandeur of an expo like this, with so many operators coming in search of business and technology, what is missing is for Brazil to really give the final touch so that this market becomes even bigger, right?
Certainly, I always say that I'm an optimist. I think now is the time. And I hope we're working on it and that we go in the best way, with the whole certification process, responsible gaming, and security audits. I think we're off to a good start, but it will never be perfect. However, if we begin with a strong foundation, it's much easier over time to improve and supplement what's lacking. I strongly believe that will be the path taken in Brazil.

Throughout all these discussions in Brazil, you made yourselves available and provided a lot of information. Do you believe that this information has been utilized? Is it really being taken into consideration?
If it's being utilized, we don't have any information on that. Our job is precisely to work closely with regulatory entities, providing guidance and offering our expertise in all the jurisdictions where we operate. I have no doubt that the information is being considered. As I mentioned, I am confident that they will do what they believe is best for Brazil and implement best practices. I have no doubt about that.

It's always great to talk to you, Valter, always very positive in your expectations. So, should we trust in your positivity?
Yes, of course. We can't think any other way. I am very optimistic. I believe it's going to happen now.

Brazil looks forward to GLI becoming even more potent in the country once regulation comes. We hope to have a laboratory in Brazil as well…
Certainly, that's something that has never been ruled out. We are waiting for the right moment, and in response to emerging needs, we will have a laboratory in Brazil.

Therein lies, for the Brazilian authorities, the commitment of GLI, one of the most important global laboratories in the gaming industry and also very active in the area of responsible gaming and combating money laundering. In other words, is GLI a complete laboratory?
Exactly. We are that, and we can say that we are the only laboratory that can assist all regulatory entities in all these areas, in all the pillars that the industry needs to be solid. And I always say, a great example of the trust that GLI has in the Brazilian market is that they hired me two years ago, and now things are happening. So, I think this demonstrates that GLI believes in Brazil.
