The company was created three years ago to carry out the internationalization project during Edmundo Martinho's tenure as the head of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa. It was discovered that in Brazil, the institution has a complex network of over a dozen companies and partners.
The Court of Accounts of the Federal District ordered the suspension of the deal and requested clarifications from Banco de Brasília after the contract was signed between the public bank of Brasília and the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Lisboa, which created Santa Casa Global to expand its presence in the international gaming and lottery market.
As the process dragged on, the lawyers of the new administration of Santa Casa, with Ana Jorge having assumed leadership of the institution, saw an opportunity to cancel the partnership with the bank without incurring costs, as it would have required an investment of over 14 million euros if it had been finalized.
Santa Casa also decided to permanently close Artentik, a platform that offered NFT art pieces (a type of cryptocurrency), after an investment of half a million euros.
