Emilie Zamponi, Regional Director for Southern Europe and LatA

“Play'n GO was a pioneer in Latin America, we’ll replicate the success of other markets in Brazil"

After an outstanding presence at G2E in Las Vegas, GMB had an exclusive conversation with Emilie Zamponi, the Regional Director of Play'n GO for Southern Europe and Latin America, to talk about new releases, emerging markets, and what the future holds for a regulated Brazil. 'We want to replicate the success that Play'n GO has enjoyed in other regulated markets,' she states.

GMB- What were the products presented by Play’n GO at the recent Global Gaming Expo?
Emilie Zamponi - This year’s G2E was the biggest to date for Play’n GO, and actually our biggest physical event of 2023. Our stand was twice the size of what we had in 2022, really underlining how quickly we’ve progressed in the Americas over the past 12 months.

We put on a full program of activities, educational content and entertainment at our stand in Vegas in October. This included the launch of two games we’re really excited about: Gargantoonz and Raging Rex 3. Our team was on hand to chat with delegates throughout the show, and we even had a couple of very special guests, including Rich Wilde, the lead of our global blockbuster Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness.

Which countries or markets are the products launched at G2E specifically aimed at?
Naturally the US is a major focus at G2E. For us, we were particularly keen to highlight our rapid growth in regulated US states, where we are now live in New Jersey, Michigan and West Virginia, with more to follow shortly. But it is interesting to see G2E growing into a truly global affair, with the online sector grabbing far more space and attention than it did just a few short years ago.

At Play’n GO, we’ve always enjoyed international success, because our games consistently deliver a truly great entertainment experience to players. Rather than specific geographies, we thrive in regulated markets around the world, with our premium titles built to help our partners drive sustainable growth over the long run.

In the spirit of G2E being a truly global show, we were also very pleased with how we were received from regulated markets in LatAm. We saw a huge increase in opportunities and engagement with the region from last year, and we’re confident that this trend will continue into 2024 and beyond.

How does Play’n GO see the Latin American market as a whole and what is the company’s participation in the region?
We’re extremely proud at Play’n GO to be one of the first-movers in Latin America. While today most major operators and suppliers are either active there or taking a close look, we’ve been banging the drum for the region for many years now, long before it was fashionable. We’re in regulated markets including Colombia, Mexico and Buenos Aires, as well as regularly attending trade shows across the continent.

For us, this is a region that can push genuine growth in the here and now, not just something to talk about abstractly for the future. We’re on the ground with local teams making that happen with our partners, and we’re excited about new opportunities that are developing.

Is Brazil a focus at the moment for Play’n GO? How are you following the direction of sports betting and iGaming regulation across the country?
The move towards a regulated Brazil igaming market has been a slow, and at times, frustrating process. But we’ve followed along throughout because we know just how much potential the country holds, and how important it is to put a sensible regulatory framework in place so it can fulfill this potential in a sustainable manner.

For us, the players come first. And Brazilian gamers deserve to enjoy both great entertainment and the protections required so this can be done safely. From what we are seeing, it looks like this may finally become a reality sooner rather than later.

What are the company's plans for Brazil when iGaming is effectively implemented?
Simply put, we want to replicate the success Play’n GO enjoys in other regulated markets. However, we understand this isn’t a given. Despite our presence in other Latin American countries, Brazil is a unique place, and players have different expectations. Add to this that we are still not certain how things will evolve once the regulation is in place.

We’ll be taking our usual approach. Leveraging our huge experience in regulated jurisdictions but maintaining an open mind and a genuine dialogue with our partners. We have a library of more than 350 world-class titles at this stage, and we know how well this portfolio performs. It is really a case of listening and learning, so we put our best foot forward and show Brazilian players why Play’n GO is so beloved by casino players everywhere.
