Important presence of Loterias Caixa at Sustainability and Responsible Gambling Seminar in Oslo

The Ibero-American State Corporation of Lotteries and Betting (Cibelae) had an enriching participation of employees from some of its member lotteries at the recent Sustainability and Responsible Gambling Seminar organized by the European Lotteries (EL) and the World Lottery Association (WLA). Loterias Caixa had two representatives at the significant event.

This event, which took place in Oslo, from September 27 to 29, and which had participants from more than 40 countries, focused on two fundamental themes: normalizing responsible gambling and adapting the lottery sector to the new normality in terms of sustainability.

Camila Rojas Vega, product engineer at the Concepción Lottery (Chile); and Fernanda Proença, parent consultant of Loterias CAIXA (Brazil), were beneficiaries of scholarships awarded by the WLA to Cibelae to attend this important event.

In Oslo, they were able to join other lottery representatives from Latin America. Among them, Oscar Castro Villar, general manager of Total Gaming Systems (ONCE Social Group – Spain) and member of the technical commission of Social Responsibility and Responsible Gaming of Cibelae; Fábio Valente, from Jogos Santa Casa (Portugal); and Rafael Bonfim , from Loterias CAIXA (Brazil).

Experts share perspectives

The seminar featured prominent speakers, including Sally Gainsbury , psychology expert; Sophie Massin , prominent economist; and Lise Klaveness , president of the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF). Their presentations sought to provide valuable insights on various aspects, such as the normalization of reduced-risk gambling, the social costs associated with lotteries, and the promotion of diversity and inclusion in the industry.

Sally Gainsbury, Professor of Psychology and Director of the Gambling Research and Treatment Clinic at the University of Sydney, emphasized the pressing situation of problem gambling as a public health issue. Her research has been instrumental in developing policies to mitigate the harm caused by gambling and exploring the role of technology in this context. She underlined the importance of reduced risk gaming to ensure a sustainable industry.

Sophie Massin, professor of economics at the University of Lille in France, highlighted the social value of the game. She shed light on the importance of creating a level playing field, especially in sports like football, which are of great relevance for girls and women.

Lise Klaveness, the first female president of the Norwegian Football Federation and the first expert television commentator during a men's World Cup, gave an inspiring speech that marked the end of the seminar.

A call to action: new EL sustainability guidelines

The event also served as the stage for the official presentation of the EL Sustainability Guidelines and the future steps of the EL Environmental Initiative.

Moderated by Laura Da Silva, Director of Sustainability at DigitalRG.com, and Carly Grace Allen, User Experience Designer at Norsk Tipping, the event left attendees inspired to shape the lottery industry in line with the new normal of the Responsible and sustainable gaming.
