Entities in the iGaming sector received this Friday (10) Circular 19/2023, published by Conar (National Council for Advertising Self-Regulation), with guidance on the measures already in force in view of Ordinance 1,330/2023.
Conar's objective was to reinforce within the segment the importance of paying attention to everything covered by the Ordinance, as well as Law 13,756/2018 and Provisional Measure 1,182/2023.
Among the points highlighted by Conar are:
* Disapproval of the use of misleading statements about the nature of the activity and results (refraining from presenting misleading information on the probabilities of winning);
* Rejection of encouraging exaggeration in the practice of betting activities;
* That provide for the protection of children and adolescents, who should not participate in the segment's advertisements, either as models or as a target audience;
* Insertion of warnings: i) age restriction for the activity (“18+”) and ii) warning clause (for example “Play responsibly”); and
* Encouragement of advertising self-regulation
In the circular, Conar informs that it has a Working Group that will soon propose a detailed framework for compliance with the principles of responsible advertising for sports betting, rules that will also be disclosed to sector entities, as soon as approved by the body.
The document is signed by the president of Conar, Sérgio Pompilio, who informs that the institution's technical staff is available for any clarifications
The Circular does not take the sector by surprise, as the main recommendations are also one of the segment's concerns. Andre Gelfi, president of the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR), endorses Conar's circular and states that “it is in line with best practices” and that the guidelines “are absolutely relevant.”
