Bill rapporteur in House sent notes to clubs

Senator Kajuru promises to keep bookmaker sponsorships without time restrictions for advertising

Senator Jorge Kajuru sent a note this Saturday (11) to the presidents of the 40 Brazilian clubs in Series A and B, which informs about the decision in relation to the Sports Betting Bill, approved this week by the Sports Commission (Cesp) and which runs in the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE), before going to the Plenary.

The document deals with the definition of the permanence of sponsorship of sports betting in free advertising and without a specific timetable in the media. Furthermore, free advertising will be maintained on club shirts in contract with bets/bookmakers. Facial recognition of all bettors was also agreed upon to verify their age of majority.

In this sense, Senator Jorge Kajuru states that it will be up to him and Senator Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA) to provide the final report and the decisive vote for the Bill. The determination was made in agreement with Senators Romário (PL-RJ), Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ), Leila do Vôlei (PDT-DF), Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS) and Sérgio Petecão (PSD-AC).

“We wish nothing but good for Brazilian football, for the clubs. We hope that Brazil's greatest passion does not lose its credibility. We are very afraid of the manipulation of football results in the exclusive item about online gaming. We will know how to discuss this issue in a democratic and honest way,” highlighted Jorge Kajuru.

The note follows:

From Senator Jorge Kajuru

I kindly request that all presidents of the 40 clubs that I love and respect so much be fair and remain calm:

1 - Senator Angelo Coronel and I will be responsible for the final report and the deciding vote on the Sports Betting Bill. After several productive meetings with Senators Romário, Angelo Coronel, Carlos Portinho, Leila do Vôlei, Eduardo Girão, Nelsinho Trad, and Sérgio Petecão, names deserving the respect of club presidents, as they agreed with my proposal, I have decided:

A - To allow the continuation of betting sponsorship in free and unrestricted advertising on media outlets;

B - I have also decided, and everyone has agreed, to maintain free advertising on the jerseys of football clubs under contract with betting companies/casinos;

C - I had to compromise on the amendments from senators who oppose advertising on stadium boards in Brazil. However, I remain open to good dialogue with my friends, senators who are 100% committed, as well as clubs and federations, so they can express their ideas next week on the topic, and we can find a solution that satisfies everyone;

D - We have also reached an agreement for facial recognition of all bettors to ensure they are of legal age, meaning only those above 18 can participate.

In conclusion, I want to clarify that I, along with the senators mentioned by name, only wish the best for Brazilian football and its clubs, ensuring that this great Brazilian passion does not lose its credibility. We are very concerned about the manipulation of football results, especially in the context of online games.

Let's discuss this issue democratically and honestly.

Thank you very much,

Senator Jorge Kajuru
