GMB - How are Betsson's businesses in Latin America?
Andrea Rossi - They are growing. Betsson has been in LatAm since 2008, we are pioneers in the market in this region for international operators. The company turns 60 in 2023 and we spent 15 of them working in Latin America. So we can ensure that we have a strong presence here.
We started in Peru and since 2020, we began an escalation of activities with acquisitions of companies in several countries and organic growth. Precisely this strong growth had a positive impact on the results of the entire Betsson Group and we are happy with everything that is happening to us in this region.
Are you also happy with Betsson's operation in the Brazilian market?
We are very focused now on the upcoming regulation. In 2019, we acquired Suaposta, which then underwent a rebranding towards Betsson and we became the only operator authorized to operate in Brazil offering horse racing. Now we wait for local regulation to be approved to leave the brand in an even better position in the market.
What is your view on what is happening in Chile with the bans on operators?
It is a complicated situation that we hope will be resolved very soon with modern, flexible and inclusive regulation that can give opportunities to operators to work legally in the market, complying with obligations.
I imagine the satisfaction that Betsson must have with Boca Juniors in the final of the Copa Libertadores being a team sponsored by the company. How did you take that?
We are very happy to be sponsors of one of the finalists of the Copa Libertadores. Boca is recognized as one of the clubs with the most history in the world, and I can only say that it makes us extremely happy to see it in this definition, especially with our brand. It is also an honor to have the second consecutive finalist wearing Betsson on the shirt. Last year it was Athlético Paranaense, and now in 2023 we support Boca so that it can be champion.
It seems that Betsson is making the “right bet” choosing teams that reach the final of America…
It is a true bet that we make and, at the same time, it should be an incentive for the teams that want to reach the final; so that they call Betsson and can be sponsored by us.
Can we now say that Boca's choice to invest with Betsson sponsorship was a wise decision?
Without a doubt, it is the most important sponsorship that Betsson has made in its history. Having the brand on the chest of an emblematic team worldwide is an opportunity for Betsson to position its brand in the Latin American market by sponsoring one of the most winning clubs in the region.
So, let’g go Boca?
Of course...Let’s go Boca and may it win the seventh Copa Libertadores in its history this Saturday.
