Rapporteurs of Brazil's sports betting bill define fee and operating period of licenses

Final rapporteur of the bill that regulates sports betting in the country, senator Jorge Kajuru, defined with the other rapporteurs of the measure the controversial points of its final text. In addition to Kajuru, bill rapporteurs will be senators Romário on the Sports Committee and Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA) on the Economic Affairs Committee.

"The three of us agreed to go against a point defended by the federal government. The Finance Minister's project proposed that the tax would be charged to the bettor. We changed that. The bettor will only pay tax if he wins, and the payment will be proportional to the profit he had," Kajuru reported to O Globo.

The senator also said that the tax on companies that carry out this activity will be 20%. The value that was being debated by the government was between 18% and 23%.

"Minister Fernando Haddad also agreed that the value of the license must be proportional to the size of the betting house. In other words, R$30 million will not be charged for all houses and websites. The smaller ones will have reduced taxes. The values will be at license period of five years," said Kajuru.

The text will also allow advertising for websites and betting companies on television without time restrictions. The text must be analyzed by the Senate Plenary on November 13 and must be read by the three rapporteurs.
