The event was organized with the support of the Sports Secretariat and brought together sports federations from Paraná and should be replicated in other cities, to raise awareness among athletes about the topic. On the same occasion, Lottopar launched a booklet on Responsible and Safe Gaming and presented informative videos on safe betting.
The president of Lottopar, Daniel Romanowski, highlighted that the regulation of sports betting is advancing in the National Congress, and that Paraná is ahead in regulating this market in the State, to give more credibility to the sector.
According to him, one of the State Government's concerns is the creation of a healthy and safe environment for placing bets in Paraná, which from now on will be regulated at the state level. The operation will be carried out by companies accredited and qualified by Lottopar, which will supervise the activities.
“The creation of Lottopar followed clear foundations based on ethics, transparency, education and compliance, and the holding of this event seeks precisely to promote education in relation to safe and responsible gaming,” said Romanowski.
“Together with the Sports Secretariat, we want to educate our athletes so that we no longer have cases, as we have had in the past, of scandals involving involvement in sports betting. The game already existed, what we are doing, the regulation, is bringing this to light.”
The state secretary of Administration and Social Security, Elisandro Frigo, highlighted that the accreditation of sports betting operators was carried out using the New Bidding Law, which guarantees the transparency and integrity of the process.
“Lottopar was created to support sport and increase revenue for the State and the idea is for a safe game to take place, in which people are aware of the ethics and responsibility of this process,” he stated.
“We take every precaution to ensure responsible gaming for the population, adopting all security measures to make this happen, but also acting on the other end, so that the athletes competing in the championships have the greatest possible care,” highlighted Frigo. “The objective is for the championships to take place with the greatest transparency and the greatest seriousness.”
During the workshop, details were also presented about the operation of the management platform and payment methods contracted by Lottopar, which will bring more security to the lottery market in the State.
Among the measures that must be adopted by operators and that will be monitored by Lottopar are informing bettors about the real probabilities of winning; provide guidance on moderation in betting and for bettors to enjoy gaming experiences under low-risk conditions; prevent children under 18 from placing bets; provide guidance on possible harm related to games and their treatments; and prohibit betting payments by credit card to avoid debt.
To address issues related to responsible gaming, integrity and fraud detection, Lottopar had a presentation from Sportradar, a global leader in identifying and working with sports data and digital content, with offices in 30 countries. The company provides integrity and fraud detection systems for sports federations of 13 different sports covering around a thousand entities in more than 80 countries.
The Sportradar system allows professionals to monitor the behavior pattern of sports betting markets around the world in order to identify suspicious activities. The results of this systemic monitoring help to detect any type of manipulation of results.
“Paraná sport and the federations are very interested in safe gambling, because a credible system brings benefits to the entire sports circle in Paraná,” stated the state secretary of Sport, Helio Wirbiski.
“Part of Lottopar’s profits will fund the State Sports Fund, so that we can invest in social projects, at grassroots and high-income levels. So everyone stands to gain if this process is increasingly safe, professional and serious.”
