The State of Rio de Janeiro has stood out in several areas, and one of them is the regulation of online betting, including fixed-odd sports betting, popularly known as "bets" in Brazil.
In April this year, Loterj took the lead in accrediting companies interested in operating in Rio de Janeiro, regularly and with legal security, both for bookmakers, bettors and the State itself.
Those who operate, invest in or monitor this sector note that deliberations in the Federal Government still seem far from a conclusion, while in Rio de Janeiro, as of November 21st, with the publication of State Decree No. 48,806 by Governor Cláudio Castro, there was an even more significant advance in defining and regulating not only who is authorized to explore lottery modalities, but also in prohibiting, in Rio de Janeiro, the exploitation of games and lotteries by companies that operate in disagreement with the State Decree and also the advertising from these websites and companies that operate with significant potential harm to consumers in Rio de Janeiro.
These effective actions to combat betting sites that operate irregularly reinforce the Cláudio Castro government's commitment to enabling the implementation and/or improvements of public policies by increasing revenue from tax collection, providing more investment in social projects promoted by Loterj with the legalized exploitation of lottery modalities.
We are committed to promoting significant innovations to redefine the landscape of the betting market in Rio de Janeiro, adopting approaches that comply with the best international standards and strictly complying with the provisions of state and federal legislation in relation to games and lotteries.
