‘Future Is Now’ debates the sports betting market, points out a new milestone begins in Brazil

With the presence of more than 180 business leaders, the “Gaming Market - What's your bet?” event, promoted by Future Is Now (FIN), marked the beginning of a new phase for the sports betting segment. This is because, at the same time as the event, in Brasília, the Senate approved the bill that regulates the sports betting market.

Bill 3,626/2023 will return to the Chamber of Deputies for analysis, but is already celebrated by sector representatives who were at the event.

“It was recently announced that Brazil has already become the global leader in access to the online betting market, generating R$45 billion per year. We are witnessing the birth of an industry with huge economic potential and which has already proven to be widely accepted by Brazilians. The approval of the bill therefore comes at a very good time and will be a boost for those who are seriously working in this market,” highlighted Marcio Malta, president of Sorte Online, the largest lottery services website in the country.

The same feeling is shared by Ueltom Gomes, CEO of H2, a company that operates in the poker market. For the executive, operators have a fundamental role in establishing a relationship of trust with the consumer and regulation comes to help in this process.

“We have to keep in mind that we are an entertainment industry. We offer a way for people to have fun responsibly, that is, there is no need to compromise their income. Anyone who does otherwise is going against our purpose and we hope that the bill comes to help make this clear,” he reinforced.

Wesley Cardia, president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), participated in the event directly from the plenary in Brasília and echoed the optimism of sector representatives.

“ANJL believes in the potential of the market and is one of the biggest advocates for regulating the sector. We want to combat illegality, guarantee the safety of bettors and encourage those who want to work within the law,” he explained.

In addition to the regulatory aspect, the meeting promoted by ‘Future is Now’ also shed light on the innovation aspect that the betting market is bringing to the Brazilian business ecosystem.

Guga Stocco, co-founder of Futurum.Capital, highlighted that bettechs are facing similar challenges to what fintechs had when they emerged. “We are talking about a pioneering industry, which has the potential to be billion-dollar. However, like all innovations, it needs time to be understood – just as happened at the beginning of digital banks. I believe it is a matter of time before they understand that the possibilities that the betting market brings are infinite and will even move other segments,” he said.

One of these aspects is the influencer market itself, who saw partnerships with betting companies as a work opportunity. “There are still many doubts about what guidelines to follow when completing an advertising job for this sector. Regulation, in fact, will help a lot in this regard, as it will provide legal certainty not only for the influencer, but also for the consumer. It will be possible, for example, to understand which sites are trustworthy and work in accordance with the law. Everyone wins,” explained Daniela Meira, a lawyer specializing in digital law.

Also participating in the conversation were Sidney Oliveira, partner at Constanza Capital, Valter Defraro Jr., government relations executive at GLI, and Loren Spíndola, specialist in the regulatory environment for digital economic growth.

The “Gaming Market - What's your bet?” event was promoted by ‘Future Is Now’, a networking group that already brings together 200 leaders of scale-ups and large national and multinational companies who are committed to new economy agendas and actively connected to networking, sharing and connection dynamics. It was created and is chaired by executive Laís Macedo.

“One of the pillars of FIN is to promote events to discuss topics with a great impact on the market, such as gaming. It was a very relevant and dynamic night for everyone present and served to highlight the potential of this sector in the country. For 2024 we will bring even more events of this size, focusing on leading segments of the new economy,” concludes Laís Macedo, founder and president of ‘Future Is Now’.
