The measure is in accordance with the rules defined in the Consumer Protection Code (CDC) and State Decree No. 48,806/2023, which determines that operators who operate lottery modalities in RJ must have authorization.
According to Cássio Coelho, president of Procon-RJ, the irregular marketing of online sports betting exposes the consumer to risk and compromises reliability and integrity. This action is considered abusive practice and improper service, according to articles 39, VIII, and 20, § 2, of the CDC.
The municipality sent letters to companies that operate fixed-odd sports betting requesting proof that they operate in the State of Rio de Janeiro in compliance with the rules defined in State Decree No. 48,806/2023.
“We started important work integrated with Loterj, reinforcing the need for effective measures to curb harmful practices, and protect consumer rights, providing greater security for bettors in the State of Rio de Janeiro,” highlights Coelho.
Companies will have 10 days after notification to submit a response to Procon-RJ, which will be analyzed by servers specializing in Consumer Law.
