ANJL: “Being against online gaming regulation means preventing the Law from protecting citizens”

The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) defends, in an official note published this Monday (18) on the eve of the vote on Bill3626 in Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, that online gaming be reincorporated into the project. In the entity's assessment, “the regulation of sports betting and online gaming is urgent to curb illegal actions. Being against it means preventing the Law from protecting citizens.”

Official Note

ANJL reaffirms the urgent need to regulate sports betting and online gaming to curb illegal actions such as those reported in the latest reports published on news outlet Fantástico. Important points of Bill 3626 that were left out in the last vote by the Federal Senate are fundamental to offering security to the State, to bettors and allowing citizens to have the guarantee of recourse to the competent authorities, in case they feel deceived and harmed.

In addition to the legal security that the regulation of online gaming seeks, with pre-established norms and rules, it should be noted that legality also encourages tax collection, the creation of formal jobs and significant investments in sponsorships to promote culture and tourism in the country, as well as sport.

ANJL reiterates the need to regulate both sports betting and online gaming, as these represent the largest portion of the market. Therefore, excluding them means leaving out the regulation precisely the largest portion of games that are explored in the country.

Parliament needs to be on the side of Brazilian citizens to protect the most vulnerable, such as minors and people prone to gambling disorders - which will only happen with the creation of a robust regulated market that can compete and control, efficiently, illegal practices and operators.

Being against the regulation of online gaming, after the press reports so many cases of fraud and so much need for control, means preventing the Law from protecting citizens.
