Bets for Mega da Virada enter the final stretch and Loterias CAIXA is now only collecting games for the special Mega-Sena contest (number 2,670), which runs on December 31st.
The prize is estimated at R$ 550 million (US$110m), the largest ever announced by Loterias CAIXA, and may surprise, considering that in previous years, on the eve of the draw date, sales increased and the prize ended up being “fattened” by bettors last minute.
As in other special Loterias CAIXA contests, the Mega da Virada main prize does not accumulate. If there are no winners in the main bracket, with 6 numbers matched, the prize will be divided between the winners in the 2nd bracket (5 numbers matched) and so on.
Bets must be placed with a specific Mega da Virada steering wheel only on official Loterias CAIXA channels. There are more than 13 thousand CAIXA lottery outlets spread across Brazil, the Loterias CAIXA portal, the Loterias CAIXA app (IOS and Android), in addition to CAIXA internet banking, exclusive to Mega-Sena and CAIXA account holders.
To play Mega da Virada, just mark 6 to 20 numbers out of the 60 available on the wheel. The bettor can still let the system choose the numbers through Surpresinha. The value of a simple bet, with 6 numbers, costs R$5 (US$ 1).
Bettors can also increase their chances of winning by placing group bets through Bolão CAIXA. Just fill in the appropriate field on the steering wheel or ask the lottery attendant. In Mega-Sena, the prizes have a minimum price of R$15 (US$3). However, each share cannot be less than R$6 (US$ 1.20). It is possible to create a pool of at least 2 and a maximum of 100 shares. It is also possible to purchase shares of pools organized by lottery units. In this case, an additional service fee of up to 35% of the quota value may be charged.
Social transfers
When placing their bets, Brazilians also contribute to areas essential to the country's development, such as sport, education, culture, security and social security.
Of the amount collected by CAIXA Lotteries, almost half is allocated to social transfers, as determined by current legislation.
