“Betmotion had notable growth in 2023 and the focus is to be the first licensed in Brazil”

Luis Traversa, COO of Betmotion, gives clear demonstrations of satisfaction with the achievements of one of the first sports betting houses to start operating in Brazil in an interview with GMB. In the Exclusive 2023 Balance/ 2024 Goals series, he highlights that “2023 was remarkable, as in addition to the significant increase in the user base, the platform got prepared for regulation.” And he guaranteed: “Our focus is to be one of the first websites to obtain a license to operate legally in Brazil.”

GMB - What is your assessment of Betmotion's performance and growth in 2023 in general? Was it as expected or did it exceed expectations?

- The year 2023 was remarkable for Betmotion. Our performance not only met our expectations, but also exceeded them in several aspects. We have seen significant growth both in terms of user base and engagement on our platform, which has undergone extraordinary change, aimed at new regulations.

Our new homepage now opens directly to the Sports Betting area, something that has been requested by many players and internal sectors of the company. These changes reflect the effectiveness of the strategies we have implemented to improve the user experience and expand our market presence.

Furthermore, the year 2024 brings us optimism and we aim to continue this upward trajectory. Our focus will be on being one of the first sites to obtain a license to operate legally in the Brazilian market. This will greatly help to further strengthen our market position, explore new business opportunities and maintain innovation as a central pillar of our growth strategy. Our commitment has always been to deliver the best experience for our users, in addition to contributing positively to the development of the sector. We are full of new ideas to achieve these goals.

What is your assessment of Betmotion's performance and growth in the Brazilian market in 2023?
It was very positive and marked a period of substantial growth. Brazil has always been a key market for us, and we have invested considerably in understanding and meeting the specific needs of Brazilian bettors. Our Brazilian DNA allows us to always be up to date with what is happening, which is crucial for our work, as the market is very dynamic and what is hyped today may be outdated tomorrow.

Therefore, we are always attentive to everything that is happening in the market and how this reflects on the behavior of our players. It's incredible how this helps us learn about users and we can say that we are ending the year with great joy and great numbers.

Could you list the main achievements or objectives achieved?
Where to start? We are very happy with this year's results. 2023 was marked by important advances in the development of new technologies and strategic partnerships, which allowed us to offer more innovative and competitive products and services. For example, the launch of our app for Android users. More than 75% of our players play directly from their smartphones and this was a request we made many years ago and we are very happy that it was a success. These factors were crucial for us to achieve robust revenue growth and greater consolidation in the online betting and entertainment sector.

We can also highlight version 2.0 of our Corporate Social Responsibility project, BetSocial. During the year, we created seven charitable campaigns and helped thousands of people.

 

 

This year, we were also nominated for the ‘Reclame Aqui’ Award, in the Draws, Lotteries and Betting category, giving great visibility to our company, which ended up representing the industry. Furthermore, in November, we entered the ranking of the 10 best iGaming companies in Brazil on ‘Reclame Aqui’, with a score of 8.6/10. This is a great satisfaction for us as we have always focused on being the best in customer service and we are seeing the fruits of this.

And we also received three nominations at the SBC Summit LatAm, also in November, in the Casino Operator of the Year, Sports Betting Operator of the Year and Socially Responsible Initiative of the Year categories.

In your sector, what themes or technological advances do you think will dominate the market in 2024? What will be the future trends?
Our focus will continue to be on providing the best product possible and being at the forefront of what is happening in the market. And what we see coming with a lot of force is gamification, which is basically already a fact in the market. Who would have imagined this a couple of years ago? Technology advances so quickly, even more so now that AI is accessible to everyone, that we always have to stay up to date.

And on this subject of gamification, the user experience is rapidly changing and converting into something much more engaging. We want to be part of this, so we have a team that has been very excited about this for a long time. You can expect news in 2024.

 

 

What is your general opinion about the regulation of the sports betting and online gaming market in Brazil?
We are following everything that involves regulation very closely. We are one of the houses that has been operating on the market for the longest time and having this law is a dream that is about to become reality. The regulation will bring guarantees and clear rules for everyone, operators, players and the government. Leaving this gray area and finally regulating the market can only bring good things, but of course, for this to happen, the rules of the game imposed by the government must be fair for everyone.

If this does not happen, all the effort made by companies in the industry so far will be in vain, as very high taxes will make players look for alternative solutions and that is where competitors appear who are not within the law and players end up getting into a market with much fewer guarantees than those offered at the moment.

Therefore, I think responsible gaming is essential at this point. We have to focus a lot on educating bettors, because yes, we are an entertainment industry that works with real money betting, but we want the experience to be fun and not addictive. This is the time when we need everyone's effort and we rely heavily on the State's help.

What are Betmotion's main goals/objectives for 2024 in the Brazilian market? And on a global level?
Well, as I said before, gamification is one of the big goals we want to achieve next year. We look optimistically to 2024 and aim to continue this year’s upward trajectory.
