Caf, taking advantage its current moment of global expansion, has just announced changes in the company's leadership. Jason Howard, who served as Chief Revenue Officer, will assume the role of CEO replacing Darryl Green, that becomes executive chairman and will still provide invaluable leadership and guidance during this new period.
The change in leadership aligns with Caf's future growth strategy as it moves from Brazilian startup to global technology provider. The company is expanding rapidly globally and Howard is well suited to lead this growth period.
Previously, he served in several executive positions, including CEO of e-commerce fraud prevention company Ethoca, which was acquired by Mastercard. Since last year, Jason has been the company's chief revenue officer.
Other names brought by the company were Vanita Pandey, a former Visa who took over as marketing director, and Emma Lindley (also a former Visa) who joined in to drive international expansion. In December, Ethoca's two other founders, Andre Edelbrock and Trevor Clarke, arrived at the company as part of the board of directors.
Caf was founded in 2019 in Venâncio Aires, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, by entrepreneur Leonardo Rebitte, creating identity validation and digital onboarding solutions, verifying the authenticity of documents and facial recognition to ensure the legitimacy of people. The proposal attracted major banks, fintechs and Brazilian retailers such as Magalu, iFood, Cora, Asaas, Mutual and N26.
However, as the company gained ground on the idtechs, it caught the attention of investors. In the middle of last year, the company received an investment of R$ 80 million (US$ 15.7m) signed by Canadians Darryl Green, André Edelbrock and Trevor Clarke, who co-founded Ethoca in 2005. Through the contribution and expertise of the executives, the founder of Caf invited Darryl to assume the presidency of the idtech (and indirectly opened more doors for the hiring of Jason).
The company reports having already carried out more than 26 million transactions and avoided R$ 877 million (US$ 172m) in fraud losses since its foundation.
Caf grew 10 times in revenue and 5 times in number of employees in 2021. Currently, the startup has offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, London, Toronto and Austin, in addition to HQ in Venâncio Aires.
As chief revenue officer at idtech, Jason oversaw all phases of the company's global go-to-market and sales, with a strategic focus on driving growth in Brazil and globally.
