Paulista Football Federation investigates new allegations of match-fixing

Two games played by Atlético Monte Azul - AMA in Série A2 of the Campeonato Paulista this year are under suspicion of match-fixing and are being investigated by the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF). The matches were against Oeste and São Caetano. The FPF relies on the services of Stats Perform, an international company that monitors suspicious movements in betting markets.

Two games of Atlético Monte Azul – AMA are under investigation for possible manipulation of the result involving sports betting. The case has already been reported to the Civil Police by the club.

The matches against Oeste, in January, in which the AMA lost 5-1 at home in the opening of the tournament, and against São Caetano, away from home, in early February, are under investigation.

The Civil Police confirmed the open inquiry into the game against Oeste but said nothing about the investigation. In the game against São Caetano, at Anacleto Campanella, in early February, fans raised suspicions about a player who deliberately forced corner kicks in favor of the opposing team.

The club itself released a note stating that the player left the club and is being investigated. In addition, it set up an internal investigation to investigate everything and that “it does not condone any type of unsportsmanlike practice, striving for fair and competitive football.”

The Paulista Football Federation received the complaint, but did not want to confirm how the investigation is going. The FPF only informed that it works actively to combat match-fixing through its Integrity Committee, in addition to the services provided by Stats Perform, an international company specializing in analysis and investigations into suspicious movements in the betting market.

The FPF also maintains a cooperation agreement since 2020 with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance, an integrity organization in sport created to strengthen cooperation and exchange of information between clubs, leagues and federations.
