Goiás studies clause to prevent bets by players relatives

The executive president of Goiás, Paulo Rogério Pinheiro, said that he is studying a way to put contractual clauses that prevent relatives of the club’s players from betting in sports betting houses. The initiative of Goia head is to curb match-fixing schemes.

Paulo Rogério Pinheiro praised the president of Vila Nova, Hugo Jorge Bravo, for having shed light on the fraudulent scheme that is being investigated by the MP-GO. Paulo Pinheiro said that he will seek information from the club's legal body to try to shield Goiás from problems of this nature.

“I met with my entire legal team and as of today they are starting to discuss an amendment to the professional contracts of all athletes, from under-20 to professional, which will contain clauses to sign, where relatives up to the second degree cannot place bets,” he said.

“If you find out, there will be a unilateral breach of contract. I don't know if I can, but I'm going to consult the legal department,” said Paulo Rogério Pinheiro in an interview with CBN/Goiânia radio.

Goias president believes that there are many problems in the betting business as well, although his club is sponsored by a sports betting company this season and has already received sponsorships from companies in the field since 2019.

“I've been saying this for a year now, there is no saint in this story. I'm sorry, but betting companies also have problems, some are not serious, they know that,” commented Paulo Rogério Pinheiro.

The manager of Goiás said that the bets will have to be rethought in the future. “This will still tarnish an Olympics and then the world will rethink the bets. This business of betting on a corner, where the guy will reach in the 100 meters dash, where the swimmer will reach the 1,500 meters, or how long it will take. This is all handled by the athlete himself,” added Paulo Rogério Pinheiro.
