The president of Loterj, Hazenclever Lopes Cançado, was present at ICE London to establish contacts and discuss the current status of the Brazilian lottery market in a round table. On the occasion, Hazenclever highlighted that Loterj will launch, within 90 days, two public notices for the concession of sports betting to the private sector, as well as the launch of new online lottery modalities.
In conversation with GMB, he highlighted that “Brazil is the new frontier for the lottery market and we are certain that we will attract the main global players to Rio de Janeiro when we launch public notices for sports betting and ilottery.”
During his presentation at the World Regulatory Briefing at ICE VOX, and at GMB stand, Hazenclever said that all administrative processes are in progress at Loterj and that within 60 days the term of reference and the notice for granting the sports betting to the private sector.
“We are in very good shape and I invite all players in the market to present themselves, as we have an excellent market to be explored. Brazil is the center of attention for sports betting and Rio de Janeiro is the best place to explore the sport, which is quite consolidated. The state's population has already embraced the activity and operators will have a large market to work with," he said.
Sports betting in Rio de Janeiro will be granted to multiple operators in order to guarantee a healthy competitive market both for the players who qualify and for the State, which will have an important collection for the reinforcement of the public coffers for its social service actions. Although the value of each license has not yet been defined, Loterj estimates something between R$ 4 and R$ 8 million (US$ 775,000 to US$ 1.55m) to for the five-year concession period.
Loterj is also working on a term of reference and announcement for the launch of new online lottery modalities, and the president is sure that many global operators will be interested in the event. “It will be a tender that we believe will bring excellent business for operators and a lot of revenue for the State to invest in social matters, Loterj's reason for existence,” he highlighted.
All of this, according to Hazenclever, will be in operation “as soon as possible and using the payment system that we have just tendered for, and which will centralize all transactions involving payment of bets and receipt of prizes,” he pointed out.
Encouraged by the interest shown by ICE VOX participants, Hazenclever Lopez Cançado invited: “Come to Brazil and especially to Rio de Janeiro, where we will offer the best market for the sports betting sector and online lotteries.”

Hazenclever Lopes Cançado – We talk about the new frontier that is Brazil and the panorama of lottery games in the country. In addition, we highlight the current status of the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery and our upcoming bids.
What will the bidding process look like? Will it allow sports betting in Rio de Janeiro?
We have the internal administrative processes in progress and we expect to publish the first term of reference and notice in the next 60 days and in 90 days the second. There will be one for sports betting and one for ilottery.
