With the aim of ensuring that any new project is driven by a local vision, an initial survey was carried out amongst the Brazilian Betfair community to help with the selection of the project name, and the decision was made by ‘Esporte Futuro’ (Future Sport).
This year, the amount will be divided between five associations: ‘Gol de Letra Foundation’, ‘Instituto Oswaldo Ribeiro de Mendonça’, ‘Associação e Apoio a Criança em Risco’ (ACER-Brasil - Association and Support for Children at Risk), ‘Rise-Up International Inc’ and ‘Jorginho Sports and Educational Center — Bola Pra Frente’.
In partnership with Global Giving, a non-profit organization that connects other organizations to donors and companies, Flutter Entertainment, Betfair's parent company, wants to incorporate its ‘Faça mais’ (Do More) pillar of the group's ‘Plano de impacto positivo’ (Positive Impact Plan) in Brazil.
The company aims, by 2030, to improve the lives of 10 million people using the power of sport and leisure, employee skills and brand reach.
“As we have grown our operations and presence in Brazil, it has become increasingly apparent that Betfair is well positioned to do more for local communities. Through the 'Esporte Futuro' project, we can do our part in building a happier and healthier Brazil and that's why we are delighted to partner with these five sports associations, each of which is doing fantastic work in their local communities,” said Sue Hammett, International Director of CSR at Flutter International.
The ‘Fundação Gol de Letra’ promotes the integral education of children, teenagers and young people through sport, culture and professional qualification, while the ‘Instituto Oswaldo Ribeiro de Mendonça’ develops children and adolescents harmed by low professional qualification, drug use and early pregnancy.
ACER-Brasil works to improve young people's self-esteem and helps transform society, while Rise Up focuses on the development and empowerment of girls and young people.
‘Bola Pra Frente’ uses sport to educate children, adolescents and their families in building values, promoting well-being and social development.
In the coming months, it will be possible to indicate other Brazilian associations that will be considered for funding through the 'Esporte Futuro' page. Betfair will carry out an internal selection process with all pre-selected associations, which will mandatorily undergo due diligence to ensure their classification as a charity.
“For the coming year, we would like to have our Brazilian Betfair community involved in encouraging associations to apply for a scholarship, and to play an important role in the selection process. Sport and leisure is one of our main themes in the ‘Faça Mais' pillar of our ' ‘Plano de Impacto Positivo' to invest in the community, and we want to ensure that projects that most need support can access grant funding. We support projects that improve health and well-being through grassroots sport. All projects that fall under these themes will be considered for future grants,” added Hammett.
‘Esporte Futuro’ was created this year and is a non-profit charity project in partnership between Betfair and GlobalGiving. Aiming to improve local communities across Brazil, the project focuses primarily on helping associations working with sport, which Betfair believes can stimulate the imagination, make bodies active, ignite passions and expand minds.
In addition to supporting projects that improve health and well-being through sport, ‘Esporte Futuro’ hopes to increase support for projects that use technology for good. The aim of the project is to become driven by the Brazilian Betfair community, with members regularly contributing insights that drive future decisions.
Flutter Entertainment, the parent company of a number of international brands and operations including Betfair, FanDuel, Sky Betting & Gaming and Sportsbet, has long been involved in charitable projects across its various markets, investing over £25m in 2022 in community projects and actions around the world. Last month, it agreed to donate R$ 950,000 (US$ 180,000) to help with rescue and recovery efforts in Turkey and Syria after the devastating earthquake, with plans to match donations from customers and colleagues up to an additional R$ 630,000 (US$ 120,000).
