The inclusion of electronic sports in the schedule of the Centro Educacional Rosa Chamma (CERC) was only possible after an update in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). With this, the category can be taught as an elective. CERC's Physical Education coordinator, Daniel Leão, detailed the process.
“The idea came up with the perception of the growth of eSports. The board of the school had already questioned me as coordinator, but at the time, even with the old High School format, there was no pedagogical fit for eSports. However, now the Physical Education content at BNCC has eSports as part of it.”
Thiago Mansur, author of recreations of historic World Cup goals, is the teacher in charge of the classes and explained how the schedule for the first academic year of the new discipline will be.
“We will try to vary the game modes. Sports, fights, FPS, to try to please as many people as possible and give a general overview of all the methods, focusing more on the practical class. In this first two months we are working on FIFA. In the second, Fortnite and in the third, we will work on a fighting game. The details are being worked out, but it is certain that there will be a category of games per bimonthly period to try to cover all tastes,” he explained.
Mansur studied at CERC and was the main name when the possibility arose to include the new discipline. With a law degree and a postgraduate degree in Football Management from the CBF Academy, "Mansurtado" started playing Counter Strike as a teenager and stood out in the old "lan houses". He always played FIFA and during the pandemic, he began advising acquaintances in search of goals in the game, as well as producing lives.
The insertion of electronic sports in the sports environment still generates taboo. Recently, the current sports minister, Ana Moser, declared that eSports are not sports and would not receive investment from the Federal Government.
In the area of education, the introduction should not be so easy either, but Daniel is not worried about possible criticism.
“There is no such concern (with criticism), because if it comes, we have all the arguments to show that the entry of eSports in schools will only bring benefits. It does not come to replace Physical Education, it is an elective that students choose to do and that contributes to their citizenship training, despite not having the physical exercise part,” he said.
