Roger Flores, former football player and sports commentator for Globo network, was the brand ambassador at the launch of the 2023 edition of Cartola and Cartola Express. At the presentation of the new product, the former midfielder spoke of the importance of Grupo Globo's fantasy game for the engagement of football fans.
“Cartola is a passion and is already established in Brazil, having reached its maturity, since it appeared in 2005. We now have the Cartola Express version, with only one year of existence and which also has many novelties to attract an ever-growing public and make it another giant like his older brother,” he said in an interview with GMB.
Regarding the innovations of the platforms, Roger stated that they were developed “because we listened to players and the game fanatics to make changes that facilitate the maximum usability and the demands of the bettors.”
In addition, Roger agreed that the launch of the new fantasy edition is the consolidation of a very successful product with good prizes, “which engage football fans even more”. For him, that, and the interest of fans and bettors is not just limited to creating their teams and making lineups. “There is a lot of study, because the user needs to understand and be attentive to each round and athlete in order to be able, in the best way, to assemble their teams and obtain the best scores.”
When commenting on the fact that Cartola worked very well on data analysis and statistics, Roger stated that “this is really important. The scout is responsible for generating data and statistics so that Cartola offers an adequate score for what happens in each round of real football, with seriousness and commitment so that there is a lot of reliability.”
On the issue of reliability, Roger said that this is essential not only for Cartola, but for Brazil. "It is the subject of the moment in Brazil, especially in light of the debates on sporting integrity and the fight against match-fixing."
About the real world and the importance of transparency and the fight against match-fixing, the commentator stated that “it is necessary to legislate and create rules, establishing an adequate line of conduct so that confidence can be passed on to everyone. In addition, athletes must do their part by behaving with dignity and not engaging in inappropriate practices.”
“It gets really ugly for everyone. The athlete is working while practicing his sport, and as the sports betting market turns a lot of money, there are malicious people who try to buy the real stars of the sports industry. This is why integrity is important and offers must be rejected and taken to the police,” he commented.
For him, there is a lot of wear and tear due to illegal practices committed by a few and that stain the sport, both for the athlete and for the sportsbooks: “the bookmakers are harmed by external actions practiced by bandits and the smaller leagues end up being the most affected,” he concluded.
