The operation ‘Penalidade Máxima’ (Maximum Penalty), by the Public Ministry of Goiás (MPGO), revealed that a betting manipulation gang co-opted players from Vila Nova, Tombense and Sampaio Corrêa so that they committed penalties against their clubs in the first half. Only in the Vila Nova game the penalty was not scored.
The STJD opened an inquiry for each game. Rapporteurs were chosen by draw. For Vila Nova x Sport and Sampaio Corrêa x Londrina, auditor Maurício Neves Fonseca was drawn. As for the game between Tombense x Criciúma, José Perdiz will be responsible for the investigation.
In principle, the time for completing the investigations is 15 days, extendable for another 15, but the STJD attorney's office recommended that the rapporteurs ask for an extension of the deadline. The reason is that the court will use evidence produced by the MPGO to support its investigation.
Last week, the MPGO denounced 14 people. Among them are eight players.
