Proposal by Deputy Felipe Carreras

Brazil's sports betting parliamentary commission has half the signatures needed to be created

The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) for sports betting in Brazil already has almost 100 supporters from deputies, representing just over half of the 171 signatures needed for its creation. The expectation is that by the end of the week all signatures will have been collected. The proposal to create the CPI is from federal deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB/PE) and had the green light from Deputies Chamber President Arthur Lira (PP-AL).

Federal deputy Felipe Carreras has already obtained almost 100 signatures in support of the creation of the Sports Betting Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI), proposed by him and with the green light from the Deputies Chamber President, Arthur Lira.

In Brazil, a CPI is a commission created in the Parliament to study national issues.

Carreras and Lira met last week to align the speech and seek understanding so that the CPI of Sports Betting is installed as quickly as possible to ensure the analysis by the Chamber of Deputies of the accusations of manipulation of football matches in the Série B of the Brasileirão from 2022.

For the author of the proposal, “the manipulation of results in Brazilian football games is increasingly clear and this happens globally. It has already happened in Europe and in Brazil it is no different, as we are in the midst of a hazy environment.”

In justifying his proposal for the creation of the CPI, the deputy stated that “the signs of the last World Cups and Club’s World Cup speak for themselves. With billions smuggled into online bookmakers and our football's history of hazy traces, worse chapters are yet to come. We have to act urgently.”
