The Assembly of Pernambuco installed this Monday (10), a special commission that will monitor the regulation of sports betting and the destination of amounts collected from the activity. The initiative is by Deputy Joãozinho Tenório, who hopes that the states will be contemplated with part of the resources.

This Monday (10), the Special Commission was installed in the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco to monitor the regulation and allocation of amounts to be collected from gambling activities, on the initiative of Deputy Joãozinho Tenório (Patriota).

According to the request of the parliamentarian, who was also elected president of the collegiate, the special commission will be to discuss and monitor, together with the Federal Government, the initiatives and projections that are being taken for the regulation of sports betting sites, especially in the with regard to the allocation of taxes collected from these activities.

In his speech, Joãozinho stated that he recently saw the information given by the Minister of Finance of Brazil, Fernando Haddad, that the government expects to raise up to R$ 15 billion (US$ 2.95b) on betting sites. In view of this, the commission's idea is to prepare a report and send it to the Federal Government so that this amount collected is not only with the Union, but is also destined for the states and municipalities that have these bets.

"Our idea, in addition to monitoring the regulation and allocation of these values, is also to propose that the resources collected at betting sites in municipalities, for example, be allocated to the areas of health, safety and education in these places," said Joãozinho Tenório.

Finally, the parliamentarian thanked the members present, Lula Cabral, Waldemar Borges and Mário Ricardo, for choosing him to be the chairman of this commission, which, as it is special, will last for 120 days and may be extended for another 90 days.

“We are going to work quickly, as we realize that the Federal Government is interested in this regulation, and that is why we want to act as soon as possible to work together with them,” he concluded.
