Brazil’s House president to install commission to investigate match-fixing in football by betting

The president of the Deputies Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), decided to install a Parliamentary Commissions of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate the manipulation of results of football matches in Brazil due to sports betting. The decision was communicated by Lira to the party leaders of the House on Tuesday (18) this week. The expectation is that he will read the application for the installation of the commission in the coming days.

The CPI request was presented by deputy Felipe Carreras (PE), current leader of the PSB and the largest parliamentary bloc in the Chamber. The tendency is for Carreiras to be the commission's rapporteur.

The request presented by the parliamentarian has the support of 216 of the 513 deputies, more than the 171 minimum signatures necessary for the creation of a CPI in the Chamber.

In the request, Carreiras cites an operation by the Public Ministry of the State of Goiás that investigates nine players suspected of defrauding the results of Serie B games of the Brazilian Championship.

The deputy, new outlet Metrópoles has already informed, is also the most quoted to report on the provisional measure (PM) that the government is preparing to regulate the electronic betting sector in Brazil.
