“SGA still has a focus on Brazil but we are looking at opportunities in Latin America”

iGaming platform provider SGA was present at SAGSE Latam 2023, in Buenos Aires, to broaden horizons in the region. During the event, CEO Jonas Matos spoke with GMB about the company's plans. “Our focus is Brazil, but we are looking at the Latin market.” As for regulation, his concern is that discussions on taxation could delay the edition of the provisional measure promised by the government.

GMB – Is SGA, a national provider of sports betting and iGaming platforms, looking for international partners to take to Brazil?
Jonas Matos –
Yes. Our focus continues to be on seeking a leading role in the Brazilian market, especially at this time of sports betting regulation, but we are also keeping an eye on the possibilities in Latin America.

SGA has been growing a lot in the Brazilian market and conquering customers with its platform. How has the company performed over the past year?
2022 was a fantastic year for SGA and now, in the beginning of 2023, we are taking action and working together to establish decisive partnerships with a view to regulation. We are looking for operators who are ready to enter the regulated market in Brazil. Now, approaching the decisive moment, more than ever.

Analyzing what is being discussed regarding regulation, do you believe that SGA's platform is already prepared to enter this regulated market?
Undoubtedly. We have the GLI-33 certification and we are also trying to understand what lies ahead in order to meet all the requirements that may arise from the edition of the Provisional Measure (PM). We are waiting for the government to define a sustainable model for operators, as we have heard some conflicts regarding player prizes and a GGR tax that has fluctuated. We hope everything goes very well.

Does this worry SGA considering how long it may take for the regulation to come out?
We believe that, in fact, it will happen this year. But due to some interests, some conflicts can be created that delay the regulation a little, but it is a path of no return. Our biggest concern is with the model, that it is sustainable. They are saying that the tax should rise from 15% to 26%. The initial percentage would be much more adequate and compatible with the international market.

As for business, SGA is expanding and seeking to offer its platform to operators outside Brazil. Is this already happening?
For the time being, our focus is on Brazil and we have not actively sought expansion, but we are already looking at the potential of the Latin market with a view to expanding our operations in the region.
