“Better Collective chose Brazil to deliver our membership experience throughout LatAm”

Better Collective inaugurated in Rio de Janeiro the office that will serve Latin America, and at SAGSE Latam in Buenos Aires, firm’s director of special projects Omar Calvo spoke exclusively to GMB about the choice of Brazil. “The country will be very important with the regulation, as happened in Colombia and the United States. One of our focuses is affiliation, we are now becoming a major sports media outlet and will be bringing all of our experience to the local market.”

GMB – You are director of special projects for Better Collective. What is new in this sense for the Latin market?
Omar Calvo –
We are announcing our arrival in the region. We have been working for some time in this market that has been growing exponentially. It started with regulation in Colombia, and now it's expanding to Argentina, Brazil, very important for us, Mexico and the United States.

Brazil is so important to Better Collective that the company's Latin America office is in Rio de Janeiro.
True. We are already installed in Rio de Janeiro and quite satisfied. Now is the phase of hiring a local team, as we believe that to conquer the region, we have to work with local talent. So we are hiring people not only in Brazil but also in other countries where we will operate.

What led Better Collective to reach such an important position in the Latin market?
The most important thing is our experience. We have been working for over 20 years with the main operators in the European market. In addition, the regulation of the sector in the United States and in some Latin American countries. This is very important because it opens the door for a company like ours, which is listed on the Stock Exchange, to enter regulated markets and continue to grow.

What are Better Collective's main solutions for the iGaming market?
The main one is our affiliate product. That's how Better Collective was born 20 years ago. We started out as an affiliate network, but now we're growing into a huge sports media outlet.

Hence your title of director of “special projects”? What are these special projects?
The most important thing is to settle in the region. In Brazil we already have our office and we are organizing the team. We must have a team that serves Spanish-speaking countries. This is the most important project, followed by the generation of alliances with the main media outlets in the region and getting closer to market leading operators in LatAm.

And are there special products for LatAm?
Our most important focus at the moment is to close partnerships with traditional media and from that and their traffic, take this to the operators. The second is related to social media and communities.

That is, to be very close to the affiliates!
Exactly.

What does Better Collective expect for the Brazilian market with the regulation, which is about to happen?
We are very attentive and waiting for it to happen soon. We've been waiting for this for a long time and I believe the conditions are right and the market is ready. The regulation is already advanced and now it is time to put the rules in place for the market to start operating. It will be a very important moment for operators and for the companies that provide services to these firms.
