Betfair summons ChatGPT to list 11 players of an ideal team in Copa Libertadores history

ChatGPT arrived to revolutionize Artificial Intelligence, the technological advances that came to break paradigms. And the Betfair team, experts in odds, decided to test the tool's ability to choose and asked it to select the dream team in the history of the Copa Libertadores de América. Five selected players played in Brazilian football.

In the week that the Libertadores group stage begins, Betfair asked the tool a basic question: “Which is the best team in the history of the continental tournament?” However, the question was misunderstood by ChatGPT, which presented a first response with names like Maradona and Messi - who, despite their Argentine nationality, never played in the most important South American competition.

After a new exchange of messages, the Betfair team received an apology from the 'chat' and it updated the list to finally suggest the eleven best players in the history of the Copa Libertadores de América according to the tool, four of them being Brazilians, and a fifth who played in Brazilian football.

Rogério Ceni, from São Paulo, was chosen in the goal. Twice champion of the tournament (1993 and 2005), Ceni was considered one of the best goalkeepers according to the GPT Chat analysis. The goalkeeper-scorer played in 11 continental tournaments for São Paulo and is ‘Tricolor's’ top scorer in Libertadores.

In the defense, appears the Paraguayan Gamarra, who played for Cerro Porteño, Corinthians, Internacional and Flamengo. The defender is regarded as one of the best South American defenders and was part of the South American national team on 5 occasions and in the 1998 World Cup, he played four games and did not commit any fouls. Roberto Ayala was the second chosen to compose the defense. The Argentine played in the 1994 and 1995 Libertadores for River Plate, being a semifinalist in his last participation.

The five-time world champion in 2002 for the Brazilian national team, Cafu, two-time champion of the Libertadores in 1992 and 1993 for São Paulo, and Roberto Carlos, formerly for Palmeiras and Corinthians, were the wing-backs chosen by artificial intelligence.

The midfield starts with Colombian Carlos Valderrama, formerly of Junior Barranquilla and Deportivo Cali, who played 27 matches for the tournament on four occasions. Enzo Francescoli, Uruguayan champion in the Libertadores 1996 with River Plate and twice elected the best South American footballer, completes the midfield alongside Riquelme, Argentine three-time champion with Boca Juniors and Golden Ball of the tournament in 2000, 2001 and 2007.

Already in the front line appear the Argentine Mário Kempes, formerly of Rosario Central and River Plate, World champion for Argentina in 1978, and the Uruguayan Fernando Morena, champion of the Libertadores of 1982 for Peñarol and three times top scorer of the tournament. They serve Rei Pelé, twice champion of Libertadores in 1962 and 1963 and three times World champion for Brazil.

In conclusion to the selection of the tournament created by ChatGPT, there are many players who were highlights wherever they went in their South American clubs, even if they did not win titles, such as Roberto Carlos, Valderrama, Gamarra, Ayala and Kempes. Even so, they were recognized by the artificial intelligence tool as the best players in America who played in Libertadores.
