This week, discussions about gambling gained strength again, after the federal government detailed the so-called fiscal framework. In the presentation, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, pointed out three important pillars, one of them being the regulation of electronic betting, with the expectation that taxation will bring somewhere between R$ 12 billion and R$ 15 billion per year to the public coffers.
In the wake of this movement, state deputy Emerson Penalva (PDT) delivered a speech at the Legislative Assembly of Bahia in which he said that some regions of the state could become "a kind of Las Vegas of Bahia" by defending the legalization of gambling in the country.
In the National Congress, the Regulatory Framework for Gaming in Brazil (Bill 442/91) is being discussed, which deals precisely with the legalization of betting in the country and the possibility of installing physical casinos in resorts in all Brazilian states. The bill is still awaiting a decision by the President of the Senate.
In sustaining his position, the deputy believes that the measure could encourage tourism in Bahia, with the implementation of these spaces in hotel complexes. He pointed out at least three regions of the state that could become a tourist hub, with the generation of jobs and economic development: north coast and rural Bahia, in addition to the northeast of Bahia.
“The region comprising Esplanada, Conde, Inhambupe, for example, has all the credentials for installing casinos. It is privileged for its natural beauties. With investments from the state government, this region could become the ‘Las Vegas’ of Bahia,” he explained.
In the Northeast of Bahia, the deputy highlighted the proximity to other states, such as the capital of Sergipe, Aracaju, and airports in the region.
“It is undeniable that this region already has attractive natural beauties, but it is necessary to stimulate other forms of tourism, and, without a doubt, the legalization of games, can bring growth and evolution to these municipalities,” reinforced Penalva.
