Allegations of match-fixing in football, and especially in Serie A and B of the Brazilian Championship (Brasileirão), have occupied a large amount of space in the media given the seriousness of the facts. The enticement of athletes has caused an uproar in football and in bookmakers, the two main victims of criminal action.
In view of this and the concern regarding the performance of the Brazilian Football Confederation and the direction that the investigations will take, as well as speculation that the Brasileirão could be suspended, the president of the entity, Edinaldo Rodrigues, released a note later this Wednesday (10), giving an official position of the CBF.
The Disclosure Note:
Regarding the suspected involvement of athletes from clubs in series A and B of the 2022 Brazilian Championship, in possible acts of manipulation of match results, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) informs that the president of the entity, Ednaldo Rodrigues, sent letter to the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Justice, requesting that the Federal Police be involved in the case, with the aim of centralizing all information regarding the cases under investigation. The CBF, in turn, will be available to provide all the necessary support.
The CBF also points out that there is no possibility of the current competition being suspended. And it has been working together with FIFA and other international spheres for a standard investigation model. It is worth remembering that the entity, which is also a victim of these possible criminal acts, has not yet been officially informed by the authorities about the facts.
At the meeting held on March 7 at the entity's headquarters, with the participation of prosecutors and prosecutors from different states of the country and the National Council of the Public Ministry, the Confederation had already made itself available to subsidize situations of this type, whenever activated.
The CBF points out that, as soon as the facts are proven, it hopes that the applicable sanctions by the STJD will be taken in an exemplary manner. Once again, the entity reinforces that the championship will not be suspended, but it defends that the punishment of athletes and other participants in the fraud scheme happens vehemently.
"I have been working together with FIFA, other international entities, as well as Brazilian clubs and Federations, with the aim of combating any and all types of crime, fraud or illicit action within football. I defend preventive suspension based on concrete suspicions and even the banishment of the sport in proven cases. Those who commit crimes should not be part of Brazilian and world football," pointed out the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
