Sports Integrity Summit discusses today betting regulation and match-fixing in Brazil

With the prospect of the betting regulation coming out at any moment, Brasilia hosts today, Thursday 11th, the 2nd Brazilian Sports Integrity Summit. The event, in partnership between GovRisk and Genius Sports, takes place at the Superior Labor Court (TST) and will bring together global experts, policy makers, regulators, law enforcement, representatives of the sports, legal and betting sectors.

The 2nd Brazilian Sports Integrity Summit proposes to discuss ways to combat the manipulation of results in sports, uniting regulatory bodies, sports entities and bookmakers on the same stage.

The event is organized by GovRisk, a British organization working on projects related to sports integrity, risk and governance, in partnership with Genius Sports, official data, technology and broadcast partner that strengthens the global ecosystem connecting sports, betting and media.

The event will have a welcome message from Lelio Bentes Correa, president of TST, and then Dominic Le Moignan, executive director of GovRisk; Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports; Rafael Marchetti Marcondes, legal director of Rei do Pitaco; and Martin Lycka, SVP US Regulatory Affairs and Responsible Gaming at Entain.

At 11:40 am, a panel will discuss the impacts of the regulation of sports betting in Brazil, whose main character will be José Francisco Manssur, special advisor to the Executive Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance and responsible for conducting the regulation of the sector in the country. He will share the stage with lawyers Udo Seckelmann (Bichara and Motta), Luiz Felipe Maia (Maia Yoshiyasu) and Rafael Marcondes.

Due to the fact that Manssur was at the head of the team that prepared the texts that are awaiting President Lula's signature in the Provisional Measure (PM) that will regulate sports betting, it is expected that he will bring some new information about the content of the regulations.

The content also includes discussions on responsible gaming, the fight against money laundering and, in particular, sporting integrity and match-fixing. This theme is particularly important due to the latest occurrences of complaints in football, notably in Serie A and B of the Brasileirão, the most important tournament in Latin America.

Among the experts who will address the issue are Chris Dougan, director of communications at Genius Sports; Natalie Cyr Clarke, from the Special Council for Sports Integrity at Genius Sports; and Paulo Schmitt, president of the Committee for the Defense of Fair Play at the COB and the Integrity of the São Paulo Football Federation.
