Loterias CAIXA collection in the first quarter reaches US$ 1 billion and grows only 0.4%

Caixa recorded recurring net income of R$ 1.9 billion (US$ 385m) in the first quarter of 2023, according to figures revealed this Thursday (11). Compared to the same period last year, there was a drop of 23.9%. From January to March, Loterias CAIXA collected R$ 5 billion (US$ 1b), an amount 0.4% higher than that calculated in 1Q22. The total net prize awarded to players was R$1.5 billion (US$ 303m).

Caixa's assets closed the first quarter at R$ 1.652 trillion (US$ 334t), growth of 11.1% in the annual comparison. In addition to the credit portfolio, which reached R$ 1.036 trillion US$ 209t, up 16.6%), the data includes the securities and derivatives portfolio, which reached R$ 249.4 billion (US$ 50.4b), a decrease of 1. 4% in one year.

Some highlights of the period

  • Total loan portfolio with a balance of more than R$1 trillion (US$ 202b), growth of 16.6% over 1Q22;
  • Balance of R$659.3 billion (US$ 133b) in the mortgage loan portfolio, growth of 14.4% compared to 1Q22;
  • Market share in real estate loans of 66.5% in 1Q23;
  • Recurring Net Income of R$1.9 billion (US$ 383b) in 1Q23, down 5.3% over 4Q22 and 23.9% over 1Q22;
  • R$ 5.0 billion (US$ 1b) raised in CAIXA Lotteries in 1Q23, 0.4% higher than in 1Q22, of which R$ 2.0 billion (US$ 404m) went to social destinations;
  • R$119.4 billion (US$ 24b) in social benefits paid from January to April 2023;
  • R$53.6 billion (US$ 10.8b) in Bolsa Família benefits paid from January to April 2023, to 21.3 million families;
  • Payment of the Salary Bonus reached an amount of R$10.6 billion (US$ 2.14b) from January to April 2023;
  • R$38.2 billion (US$ 7.7b) in INSS benefits paid from January to April 2023;


Loterias CAIXA

In 1Q23, Loterias CAIXA collected R$ 5 billion (US$ 1b), an amount 0.4% higher than that calculated in the same period of the previous year. The total net premium delivered to players in the quarter was R$1.5 billion (US$ 303m).

Loterias CAIXA are an important source of funds to promote social development in Brazil. In 1Q23, R$ 2 billion (US$ 404m), equivalent to 39.1% of the total, were allocated to the Federal Government's social programs in the areas of social security, sports, culture, public safety, education and health, an amount that is 2, 0% higher than in 1Q22, in addition to the return to society via income tax payments.
