Senator Jorge Kajuru once again spoke about the allegations of match-fixing in Serie A and B of the Brasileirão, saying that the investigation must continue to punish those involved in the electronic betting mafia and that “the CBF had, yes, should suspend the Brazilian Championship for an in-depth investigation now.”
The senator pointed out that the Goiás Public Prosecutor's Office began investigations in November last year, after a complaint from the president of Vila Nova Futebol Clube.
“After five months of work, the prosecutors concluded that the criminal scheme has two distinct cores. One is made up of bettors, who entice athletes to commit penalties or receive cards during games and place bets on websites. The second is that of the financiers, who give the money to pay the recruited players,” he said.
The parliamentarian asked that the investigations continue and that the culprits be punished. For him, the Federal Police need to go deep in the investigations and the Public Prosecutor's Office should present the complaints to the Justice, and this will speed up the decisions.
The senator also pointed out that a position taken by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) can curb this type of crime.
“The CBF can also act, prohibiting, for example, bookmakers from sponsoring football clubs and players. Just as it is happening (and being an example to the world) in England, with the ban on advertising signs on football team shirts, football players, making commercials and receiving millions every 30 seconds,” said Kajuru.
