With support of Lira, André Fufuca to become president of Commision of sports betting

Federal deputy André Fufuca (PP-MA) should chair the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Sports Betting, whose installation session was scheduled for this Wednesday (17). Fufuca has the support of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). The party was quoted for the command of the Mixed Parliamentary Investigation Commission (CPMI) on January 8, but gave up the role.

The rapporteur for the CPI should be federal deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE), author of the investigation request against an alleged interference scheme in football matches to manipulate betting results.

The bet of party leaders is that, as it is a popular topic, the CPI of Sports Betting has the potential to cause greater social impact than the CPMI to investigate the destruction of public property in Brasília.

The commission of inquiry should include, among its 34 members, federal deputies with sports careers, such as Bandeira de Mello (PSB-RJ), former president of Flamengo, Maurício de Souza (PL-MG), former volleyball player, Delegado da Cunha (PP-SP), former judoka, and Afonso Hamm (PP-RS), former football player.

The expectation is that the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry will summon athletes, referees and officials. Last week, the Federal Police informed that it will enter into investigations into the alleged manipulation scheme in football games.
