The Chamber of Deputies installed this Wednesday (17) afternoon three Commissions (CPI) to investigate different issues that currently generate conflict in Brazil, including the manipulation of results in football.
As was already known, the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry on Sports Betting will be chaired by a deputy from the mayor's party, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). Júlio Arcoverde, from Alagoas and closely linked to Lira, will lead the CPI, which will have as rapporteur the author of the Commission's creation, Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE).
The rapporteur has already informed that he will call to testify to the commission players involved in the manipulation of football matches in the Serie A and B of the Brasileirão, in addition to judges, CBF representatives, gamblers and enticers denounced in the Maximum Penalty Operation and representatives of bookmakers. Carreras will call a Federal Police delegate to technically subsidize the investigative work to be conducted by the collegiate.
Deputy Felipe Carreras was appointed rapporteur not only for having been the author of the creation of the CPI of Sports Betting. He was the rapporteur for the Legal Framework for Gambling in the Chamber of Deputies, which culminated in the approval of Bill 442/91 in the House and which is awaiting a vote in the Senate. In addition, he reported the General Sports Law. All of this demonstrates its technical competence in analyzing allegations of match-fixing.
Yesterday (17) afternoon, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, told the deputies of the Economic Development, Finance and Taxation and Financial Supervision commissions that sports betting needs to be regulated in order to curb the manipulation of results in football and that bookmakers start paying taxes to operate in Brazil.
