Júlio Arcoverde, commission chairman

“Sports Betting CPI will be open to several lines of investigation”

Federal deputy Júlio Arcoverde (PP-PI), president of the Sports Betting CPI, said that several lines of investigation will be followed by the commission installed this Wednesday (17). The first meeting – still informal – of the collegiate was scheduled for Thursday (18) afternoon in Brasilia, to start detailing the work plan. The official will take place next Tuesday (23).

In an interview with Panorama Esportivo of O Globo, he stated that “the works will be based on the internal regulations of the Chamber of Deputies, in particular art. 35 and 36. A preparatory meeting is planned for this Thursday with the technical area to detail some lines of action.”

A list of calls has not yet been defined, which will still be discussed and agreed with all members. "We are still going to meet to, in the light of the work plan, bring witnesses or investigated who actually contribute to the work of the CPI," said Arcoverde.

At the moment, the deputy does not rule out a ban on certain types of bets, such as cards and corners, but that “all options are on the table. The purpose of the CPI is to remain open to several lines of investigation. As they advance, we can better analyze how we can contribute to the improvement of the legislation,” he said, referring to the text of the Provisional Measure proposed by the government.

At the same time, he ruled out extending the CPI to other sports, declaring that the focus of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry is football.
