Football federation and Public Ministry of Paraíba create task force to combat manipulation

'Zero tolerance'. The president of the Paraíba Football Federation (FPF-PB), Michelle Ramalho, confirmed the joint work of the entity with the Public Ministry of Paraíba (PM-PB) to combat any indication of fraud in sports betting in football in the state. The leader met this Thursday (18) with Romualdo Tadeu de Araújo, president of the Fan Sports and Defense Center (Nudetor), linked to the MP-PB, to discuss the matter.

The official pointed out that the subject is in the discussions of all the federations and of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). For her, it is important to investigate and fight any indication of irregularity.

“We are following the progress of the investigation carried out by the Goiás Public Prosecutor's Office, which showed ramifications in other states. For our part, we are going to propose a partnership with the Public Prosecution Service of Paraíba, a task force to investigate any signs of manipulation,” stressed the leader.

At the meeting in which the task force to combat the practice of illicit acts took place, some measures were defined. A technical cooperation term was decided between the PM and the FPF-PB. Nudetor will have access to reports forwarded to Sportradar, a company that is part of the Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS), with the aim of planning actions in view of the concrete scenarios of betting companies in the state.

The Federation will provide the Fan Sports and Defense Center with updated information on the registration data of all accredited professional players and referees who have a link with the FPF-PB. The fight against match-fixing aims to promote strong measures. In an action that will bring together clubs, the Federation and Control Bodies, there is also the forecast that a Denounce Disk will be created. It will be up to the Federation and club directors to send evidence of irregularities or specific events that, during the course of matches, may influence bets.

The FPF-PB has committed to adopting specific rules in the regulation to punish clubs, players or managers who are involved in the match-fixing scheme. There is also in the commitment of football employment contracts explicit information of illicit conduct and respective penalties.

It is also in the plans to promote educational campaigns, with lectures, seminars and symposiums to expose how much these attitudes violate the integrity of competitions and the good faith of bettors, but also constitute an irregularity.

As the games have been broadcast by Sportradar for three years, the FPF is intensely concerned with the fairness of state matches.

At least one game in the Paraiba Championship this year was mentioned in the investigation of Operation Maximum Penalty, by the Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO). The match in question is the semifinal between Treze and São Paulo Crystal, held on March 25, in Campina Grande. An exchange of messages between former player Rodrigo Paraíba, son of Marcelinho Paraíba, and the leader of the fraud scheme, Bruno Lopes, known as BL, point to an alleged facilitation for the victory of the ‘Galo’.

São Paulo Crystal released an official note on Wednesday (17), after the second game of the 2023 Paraiba Championship semifinal, in which the team lost to Treze, was under suspicion of having suffered manipulation of the result.

The tricolor board explained that it will ask for access to the file of the Maximum Penalty Operation process, of the Public Ministry of Goiás (PM-PB), which investigates a fraud scheme involving sports betting in Brazil, and highlighted that, in this case, the clubs are victims.
