Where does the CPI go?
For the rapporteur, behind the operators that enticed the players, there were financiers. He will ask for support from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to have FP agents. Coaf, a council that monitors financial activities in the country, will also be employed.
The rapporteur wants to use technicians and police agents to cross-check bank transactions and track the heads of the scheme.
There is also an intention to find out which clubs had a group of recruited athletes. Carreras points out that there are suspicions against players from Flamengo, the club with the biggest fan base and revenue in Brazil.
He questions that, if there was room to attract players in a big club, smaller teams must be much more exposed to manipulators. The rapporteur says he believes that the situation in the lower divisions can be chaotic.
“I believe that in Series C and D the situation can be very complicated,” said Carreras.
CBF will be called to give explanations at the CPI
A report from the technology company Sportradar indicated that 775 suspicious games were played in the world last year. Brazil is the country that appears the most on the list: out of every five suspicious departures, one took place in Brazil.
The rapporteur of the Betting CPI will call representatives of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to find out what measures have been taken in this scenario. The intention is to find out if there was an omission on the part of the entity that commands national football.
Another work front is to understand how enticement took place. Carreras wants the investigations to identify how athletes were approached and what player profile was sought.
